
Utah's Haskins Named CCM Vector Rookie Of The Month

Haskins is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for January.
The native of Madison, Ohio had 16 points with 11 goals, including two hat
tricks, and a plus-minus rating of +7 as the Grizzlies went 7-6-1.
After beginning the month with a goal in a 5-4 win at Idaho, the 6-foot-1
and 190-pound Haskins had back-to-back games where he scored career highs
with three goals and four points in home wins over Phoenix on Jan. 16 and
18. The 21 year old scored a goal on Jan. 19 against Phoenix to extend his
goal streak (7g) and point streak (7g-2a) to three games.
After scoring a goal in a 3-2 shootout loss at Las Vegas on Jan. 27, he
closed out the month with an assist in a 3-2 win at Bakersfield on Jan. 29
and tied his career best with four points (2g-2a) in a 6-3 win against
Alaska on Jan. 31.
Drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the fifth round (162nd overall) of the
2004 NHL Entry Draft and under contract to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of
the American Hockey League, Haskins leads the Grizzlies with 21 assists and
is tied with fellow rookie Keith
Johnson for second in scoring with 34 points in 33 games. He has also
played in the AHL where he has 10 penalty minutes in 12 games for the Sound
Tigers.
Before turning professional, Haskins played five seasons in the Ontario
Hockey League where he had 244 points (72g-172a) and 312 penalty minutes in
300 regular season games and 31 points (16g-15a) and 58 penalty minutes in
49 playoff games for Guelph, Saginaw and Toronto St. Michael's from
2002-07. He also played in the United States Hockey League where he had 11
points (3g-8a) and 20 penalty minutes in 46 games for Sioux City in
2001-02.
