February 5, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators "Pink in the Rink" Weekend is this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Arena at Gwinnett Center as the Gladiators partner with local organizations to help raise money and awareness for Women's Cancer Research.
The Gladiators "pink" themed weekend includes the Gladiators annual special jersey auction as the team will wear pink accented jerseys during the three games, fundraising opportunities and pink ice to help raise funds and awareness for Women's Cancer Research.
Organizations participating in the Gladiators "Pink in the Rink" Weekend include The American Cancer Society, Emory Eastside, Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, Volley Fest, Tutus for Tatas and the American Business Women's Association.
In addition to the annual special jersey auction to follow the Gladiators Sunday afternoon contest against Columbia, the team, in conjunction with the participating organizations, will be collecting donations for special "Pink in the Rink" Weekend t-shirts. The Gladiators are asking for a minimum donation of $10 per shirt.
All the organizations sold Gladiators fundraising tickets to help raise money for their cause while each also had the opportunity to receive a portion of the proceeds from the Gladiators fundraising efforts during the weekend.
Also, the first 2,000 women of all ages to the Gladiators game on Saturday, February 9th will receive a Pink Visor courtesy of Verizon Wireless, Mr. Home Repair and Remodeling and Steifel Labratories.
The Gladiators will also skate on pink ice during all three games over the weekend. It will be the second time in team history that the team has skated on colored ice during a home game. Last season the ice was dyed green for St. Patrick's Day on March 17th.
Fans who wish to participate and make a donation to the Gladiators fundraising efforts will have the opportunity to stop by one of the organization's tables on the main concourse at any of the three games to make a donation. In addition, the Gladiators will be holding a 50/50 raffle at all three games with a portion of the proceeds to be given to the cause.
The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Friday, February 8th as they host the Wheeling Nailers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action in Friday's game via AccessRadio on AccessNorthGa.com.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
