South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and head coach Jared Bednar announced today that defenseman Rory Rawlyk has signed with the team. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed. He is expected to make his Stingrays debut this evening when South Carolina hosts the Charlotte Checkers at 7:05 p.m.
Rawlyk, 24, began the 2007-08 season with Regensburg in Germany, collecting 24 points (7g, 17a) in 35 games. The fifth-year pro has prior ECHL experience with Charlotte and Cincinnati, totaling 125 points (34g, 91a) in 232 contests. Rawlyk also has combined for 36 games at the American Hockey League level, registering 9 points (2g, 7a) for Hartford and Binghamton.
"He's a guy that'll bring us a little bit of experience on our blueline," Bednar said. "He's got some American League experience as recent as last season, and he's got a big body. He's a right-handed shot that'll play our power play, he sees the ice pretty well, and he's pretty creative offensively. I think he's going to be a good fit for us."
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-5, 218-pound blueliner played two years in the WHL for Vancouver, Prince Albert, and Red Deer producing 47 points (16g, 31a) in 120 junior contests.
During his tenure with Red Deer the Edmonton, Alberta native played alongside current Stingrays defenseman Grant McNeill.
