Fresno's Moreland Named RBC Financial Group Saver Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Jake Moreland of the Fresno Falcons is the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month for January.

The 28 year old was 7-1-1 with a shutout, a 2.08 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage in nine games as the Falcons went 9-2-1 in January to move into second place in the Pacific Division with 56 points (25-11-6).

Moreland had a five-game winning streak from Jan. 4-13 and was named ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 7-13.

The Grand Forks, N.D. native posted three straight overtime wins at Las Vegas, making 27 saves in a 5-4 win on Jan. 4, stopping 19-of-21 shots in a 3-2 win on Jan. 5 and turning aside 35 shots in a 2-1 win on Jan. 8.

After recording his first shutout of the season stopping all 24 shots in a 6-0 win against Phoenix on Jan. 13, the 6-foot-2 and 190-pound Moreland turned aside 20 shots in a 6-1 win against Idaho on Jan. 25 and made 28 saves in a 4-2 win against Phoenix on Jan. 27.

The fifth-year professional is 58-35-17 with seven shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.69 and a save percentage of .920 in 120 regular season games with Fresno, Stockton and Atlantic City. He helped Atlantic City win the Kelly Cup in 2003 going 2-0 with a goals-against average of 1.68 and a save percentage of .945 in two games.

Moreland has also played in the American Hockey League where he is 1-1-0 with a 1.38 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage in two regular season games with Worcester in 2003-04 and 1-1 with a 2.81 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in two playoff games for Milwaukee in 2005-06.

He played four seasons at St. Cloud State and was 27-17-1 with four shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of .902 in 49 games from 1999-2003.

Runners Up: Ryan Munce, Mississippi (8-3-0, 2.35 GAA, .928 save pct.) and Anton Khudobin, Texas (6-1-2, 2.23 GAA, .925 save pct.).
