Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that they have signed forward Brad Schell. Schell lead the team and the ECHL in scoring during the 2006-07 season with 110 points off of 25 goals and 85 assists while garnering ECHL MVP honors for his efforts last season.
The Scott, Saskatchewan native's 110 points and 85 assists last season were both all-time team highs. Schell also lead the ECHL in assists and scoring last season and his season assist total stands as the fourth highest season total in league history.
The 6-foot and 190-pound centerman accomplished his scoring feats in only 63 games with the Gladiators. He also notched 12 regular season games for the AHL Chicago Wolves, collecting 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points. In addition, Schell tallied 2 assists for the Wolves in 15 playoff games.
Selected as an all star last season, Schell was the captain for the American Conference squad. He posted a goal while helping the American Conference to a 6-3 win in the All Star Game.
Schell attended training camp with the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers as well as in the American Hockey League with the Providence Bruins prior to the 2007-08 season. Schell was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 6th round, #167 overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Schell should be available for the Gladiators as they play host to the Wheeling Nailers on Friday night to kick off the Pink in the Rink weekend. The puck drops at 7:35pm.
The Gladiators continue their fifth anniversary season on Friday, February 8th as they host the Wheeling Nailers at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m. Catch all the play-by-play action in Friday's game via AccessRadio on AccessNorthGa.com.
Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier 'AA' Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that has 25 teams in 17 states and British Columbia in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals. The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5.
The Gwinnett Gladiators continue their fifth season as a proud member of the ECHL - season ticket packages are on sale now. In addition, the Gladiators offer several unique multi-game ticket packages as well as discounted group rates, suite rentals, and birthday parties.
