Utah Grizzlies Weekly News and Notes

March 6, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release

In A Nutshell

Utah now has over a week off.
They return to action Wednesday, March 15 hosting Alaska.
Utah opens a four-game home stand on the 15th.

Honored By The ECHL (Part One)

Going 8-0-1 during the month of February was enough to make Grizzlies goaltender Alfie Michaud February*s version of the RBC Financial Group ECHL Saver of the Month. Michaud had three road shutouts during February, a 1.76 GAA and a save percentage of .964.

Honored By The ECHL (Part Two)

10 goals and 16 assists in 14 games earned Ryan Kinasewich the CCM TACKS ECHL Player of the Month for February. The 22-year-old had ten multiple-point games during February and finished the month with an eight-game scoring streak.

Honored By The ECHL (Part Three)

A +14 on the ice earned Garett Cameron the ECHL*s HOK Sport Plus Performer of the Month for February. The second-year ECHL player recorded a +2 in six games for the Grizzlies and had only one game where he wasn*t even or better. Cameron also had a 12-game scoring streak (February 1-24) where he scored eight goals and nine assists.

If Only February Had 31 Days

Utah finished the month of February 10-2-2, their best record for a month. However, starting months on a winning note has not been the Grizzlies strong point. Including Wednesday*s loss in Alaska to open March, Utah has not won their first game of a month since a 4-1 win over Alaska to start November on the fourth of that month.

Road Warriors In The Lower 48

The Grizzlies have won at least one game in every away arena that they have played at this year, except Sullivan Arena in Anchorage. The Grizzlies are 0-4-1 playing in the Last Frontier.

Leading After 2

Saturday was only the second time all season that Utah has entered the third period with a lead and not left with two points. The Grizzlies are 25-1-1 when leading after two periods this season.

Still Battling The Injury Bug

Wednesday in the first period at Alaska, Colt King left injured. With King injured, Utah competed Friday and Saturday with just 14 skaters, including only four defensemen.

Finally A Break

At 60 games played this season, Utah has played more games than any other ECHL team. That being said, Utah now has ten days off before their next game. The stretch is Utah*s longest without a game this season.

Tough Schedule

Utah is currently in a stretch where they are playing eight-straight games versus playoff contenders in the ECHL*s West Division, including six of seven versus the Alaska Aces.

Did You Know*

The Grizzlies entire team and coaching staff were present at the starting line for the Iditarod dog race when it began Saturday morning in Anchorage.
