West Valley City, Utah- Two second period goals were all the Phoenix RoadRunners needed as they held on to defeat the Utah Grizzlies, 2-1 Saturday night at the E-Center.

After a defensive struggle in the first period, the RoadRunners got on the board when Mike Ouellet took a precision pass from Miguel Lefleche and put the puck past Utah goalie Justin Eddy. At the 8:24 mark, Brad Woods extended the RoadRunners lead to two, when he fired the puck from the high-slot into the back of the net.

The Grizzlies came within one when Chad Starling ripped a shot past RoadRunners goaltender Mike Mole. Jeff Miles and Louis Dumont picked up the assists on the goal at the 11:53 mark in the third period. The goal was initially waved off by referee Jason Nissen, but after conferring with the goal judge and linesmen the score was allowed.

The Grizzlies rally fell short in the final seconds when a Louis Dumont shot hit the goalpost.

Utah fell to 21-16-3 with the loss, and Phoenix improved to 12-24-3. The Grizzlies return to the E-Center ice on Friday, January 27 to take on the Bakersfield Condors. Game time is at 7:05.
