Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx rode a four-goal first period to a 5-1 road win over the Florida Everblades on Saturday night at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida.

Augusta kicked off their major offensive period at the 10:18 mark when Doug Wright slammed home a BJ Gaustad feed from behind the Everblades net to make it 1-0. Martin Lapointe also picked up an assist on the goal, his first of the night.

Ryan Lang then followed with a one-time goal from Dan Sullivan and Jeff Mason for a 2-0 lead, beating Everblades starter Phil Osaer through the legs. Augusta continued the assault as Anthony Battaglia bagged a pair of goals to make it 4-0. Brian Passmore's faceoff win set up the first goal, while Lapointe fed Sam Ftorek for a 2-on-1 with Battaglia, who potted the puck at 19:31 for his second marker of the evening. Osaer was pulled after the first, suffering the loss with 11 saves on 15 shots.

In the second period, Augusta would find themselves the beneficiary of five straight power plays but were unable to mark on any of them. The Everblades, however, managed to notch a goal to make it 4-1 on a Brandon Coalter tally just over halfway through the middle frame.

Third period saw the Lynx regain their four-goal cushion at 4:54 when Mason scored off his own rebound for a shorthanded marker from Phil Cole. Dan Sullivan absorbed a hit back in the Lynx zone to allow the puck free to Cole, who fed Mason at center for the score.

Augusta finished the game 0-for-5 on the power play while Florida ended the night 0-for-3.

After the upcoming All-Star Break, the Lynx will find themselves back in action starting with a Saturday/Sunday pair of games against the Alaska Aces in Anchorage, followed by a three-game set with the Victoria Salmon Kings in British Columbia. Augusta's next home game will be Friday, February 10 versus the Charlotte Checkers at 7:35 pm.
