Utah Grizzlies News Release
The Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL concluded their 2006-2007 regular season Saturday in Alaska. Hockey returns to the E-Center in October.
News and Notes
Andy Sertich
During the 2007 calendar year, the Grizzlies were led in scoring by rookie all-star Andy Sertich who had six goals and 32 assists in Utah's final 43 games. Sertich tied an all-time Grizzlies high with five points (one goal, four assists) in a game January 5 at Alaska. He finished third among ECHL defenseman with 40 assists and 26 power-play assists. Sertich led all ECHL rookies in assists, power-play points (30) and power-play assists.
Ryan Kinasewich
Ryan Kinasewich was one of only two ECHL players to win the ECHL's Player of the Week award twice this season. He captured the award twice in three weeks, in late December and early January.
Brad Herauf
Four goals by Brad Herauf November 4 at Idaho still remains an all-time Grizzlies high over the team's 13-season history.
Iron Men
Andy Sertich and captain Travis Rycroft appeared in all 72 games for the Grizzlies this season. Rycroft leads the Grizzlies organization in ECHL games played; appearing in 146 of 148 total games.
NHL Draft Picks
Utah finished the season with eight former NHL draft picks on their roster. (Danny Stewart, Blake Robson, Andy Sertich, Bill Kinkel, Ian Forbes, Joel Irving and Rob McVicar.)
Injuries
The Grizzlies missed nearly 300 man-games to injuries during the season, including the final 23 games by leading scorer Ryan Kinasewich who had 29 goals and 30 assists in 44 games at the time of his injury. The Alberta native had 19 multiple-point games, including nine games of three points or more. He had six goals and ten assists in his last nine games played.
Community Update
During the 2006-2007 season, the Utah Grizzlies organization made over 120 community appearances, including two all-team hospital visits and over 30 elementary school assemblies.
