Cyclones-Toledo Playoff Series Announced

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones open their 2006-07 ECHL Kelly Cup playoff season with a best-of-five series in the second round against the Toledo Storm. Games one and two of the series will be played this weekend at Toledo, while game three and four (if necessary) would be played at U.S. Bank Arena late next week. A fifth and decisive game, would be played in Toledo on Sunday, April 22, if needed.

The playoff series with Toledo marks the first time the Cyclones have been in the Kelly Cup playoffs since the spring of 2003, when the club won two rounds and advanced to the American Conference Finals. In that series, Cincinnati lost in seven games to the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies.

The Cyclones went 37-29-4-2 during the regular season, to finish third in the North Division. Toledo finished 39-30-1-2 during the year, taking second place in the North Division. Cincinnati won the regular season series between the teams, 6-4, with the home team winning nine of the ten games in the set. The feud between the squads was a physical one, with 583 penalty minutes whistled this season, including 16 fights.

The Cyclones were paced by Cincinnati native Jason Deitsch, who collected 26 goals and 45 assists for 71 points, while second-year forward Jean-Michel Daoust led the club with a team-high 32 goals and added 30 assists for 62 points. Cincinnati also had the ECHL's leading goal scorer, as Mike Wirll was acquired on Valentine's Day and netted 47 goals for the year. Goaltender Cedrick Desjardins was named to the league's All-Rookie Team and collected 24 wins, a 2.54 goals against average and five shutouts.

Toledo was paced offensively by forward Matt Zultek, who collected 27 goals and 37 assists for 64 points. Forward Chris Blight also chipped in 26 goals and 28 assists for 54 points. Goaltender Logan Koopmans was stellar down the stretch, posting a 17-7 record and a 2.83 goals against average.
