
Steelheads Announce Playoff Roster

Boise, ID - The Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL announced their 2007 Kelly Cup Playoffs roster today. The roster includes 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders, plus two players on AHL recall. The ECHL allows for a maximum of 20 skaters on the active roster and room for one player on the 3-day IR, 7-day IR and 30-day IR. Furthermore, all ECHL teams faced a 3:00 p.m. EDT deadline today to submit their rosters.
Led by three members of the Steelheads' 2004 Kelly Cup Championship squad in Lance Galbraith, Scott Burt and Darrell Hay (7-day IR) plus First Team All-ECHL selection Marty Flichel and second-year goaltender Steve Silverthorn, who led the ECHL with 36 wins, the fourth-seeded Steelheads will open their quest for the 2007 title against the fifth-seeded Stockton Thunder.
Steelheads head coach Derek Laxdal said, "Our 20-man roster is the lineup that has been consistent the last eight games of the regular season, providing us the depth that we need for the ECHL playoffs sprint to the finish."
The full roster is as follows:
FORWARDS (13): Alexander Naurov, B.J. Crombeen, John Lammers, Scott Burt, Tuomas Mikkonen, Marty Flichel, Derek Nesbitt, Jay Beagle, Greg Rallo (AHL), Lance Galbraith, Taggart Desmet, Kyle Bruce and Francis Wathier (AHL)
DEFENSEMEN (8): Colin Peters, Kory Scoran, Travis Wight, Blake Forsyth, Kyle Peto, Lars Helminen, Steve Chabbert and Darrell Hay (7-day IR)
GOALTENDERS (2): John Daigneau and Steve Silverthorn
In conjunction with the playoff roster announcement, the Steelheads also announced that forwards Jeremy Yablonski (3-day IR), D'Arcy McConvey (30-day IR) and Colin Shields (30-day IR), as well as defensemen Mike Gabinet (30-day IR) and Jared Nightingale (30-day IR) were left off the playoff roster and subsequently released. Also, winger Kyle Bruce was activated off the 30-day IR today and will be available for the playoffs, while defenseman Matt Nickerson was recalled to the Steelheads' AHL affiliate, the Iowa Stars.
The best-of-seven National Conference Quarter Finals series begins on Tuesday, April 10 at Qwest Arena. Game two is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11 with the puck dropping at 7:10 p.m. MDT for all home playoff games.
