
Titans Take Game One Against Chiefs, 4-2

TRENTON, NJ (April 9, 2007) - Tied at two heading into the third period, the Trenton Titans pulled away to score a 4-2 victory over the Johnstown Chiefs in Game 1 of the best-of-three North Division Quarterfinal on Monday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena.
As time on a Titans' power play expired, Benoit Mondou quickly led the rush back into the Chiefs' zone before spinning a drop pass over to Scott Bertoli, who rifled a one-timer from the near circle past the glove of goalie of Ryan Munce at 2:50 of the third.
Mark Pandolfo would give Trenton some insurance at 12:08 of the same period, coming off the bench, accepting a feed from Don Morrison and sending a slapshot into the twine to make the score 4-2.
The Titans got the all-important first goal of the contest thanks to a power play marker at 10:22 of the first after Benoit Mondou took the puck from a scrum in front and fired a snapshot into the top shelf.
Trenton's lead went to 2-0 just 56 seconds into the middle stanza when Chris Capraro centered to the puck from the behind the net into the slot where a wide-open Luis Tremblay rang the puck off of the iron in the back of net.
Johnstown responded in the period with two goals 1:47 apart to knot the score. Geoff Waugh was left alone at the point and beat a screened Gregg Naumenko at 7:32. Then a turnover by the Titans in the offensive zone led to a 3-on-1 break, which Jean Desrochers completed when batted home the rebound from Marek Kvapil's wrister.
Naumenko stopped 30-of-32 shots to record the win for Trenton. The Titans were 1-for-5 on the power play and a perfect 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
