MILWAUKEE – The Grand Rapids Griffins completed their preseason schedule with a 3-1 loss to the defending Calder Cup champion Milwaukee Admirals at the Wilson Park Ice Arena on Friday night.

The home team opened the scoring with a power play tally by Simon Gamache at 10:36 of the first period. Darren Haydar and former Griffin J.C. Ruid assisted on the goal.

The Admirals extended their lead to 2-0 when Scottie Upshall found the twine for his first of two goals. Jordin Tootoo earned the lone assist at 12:51 of the opening frame.

Upshall struck again 3:44 into the second period with a power play goal from Dan Hamhuis and Brad Tiley.

Jiri Hudler tallied the Griffins' first goal of the exhibition season when he notched a power play marker from new additions Peter Vandermeer and Eric Manlow at 4:07 of the third period. The Griffins, who defeated Cleveland during a scrimmage on Tuesday, finished their official preseason slate with an 0-2-0-0 mark.

Joey MacDonald, despite making 33 saves for Grand Rapids, saw his preseason record fall to 0-2-0. Milwaukee's starting goaltender Seamus Kotyk (W, 1-0-0) stopped all eight shots he faced for the win. Brian Finley (ND, 1-0-0) turned aside 13 shots to secure the victory for the Admirals.

Grand Rapids will host the Cleveland Barons on Friday, Oct. 15 for Griffins Opening Night, presented by Foremost Insurance. Game time at Van Andel Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
