Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, MA â Center Jarrod Skalde scored the lone goal for the Springfield Falcons as the club dropped a preseason game to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 3-1, at the Olympia Ice Center on Friday evening. Former Falcon netminder Steve Valiquette stopped 25 of 26 shots to help Hartford to the win. Springfield will wrap up their exhibition schedule with a pair of games against the Providence Bruins, including a match-up on Saturday at the Olympia. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
Hartford defenseman Jeff MacMillan, after receiving a drop pass from Bryce Lampman, slapped a shot from the right face-off circle past Springfield goaltender Jamie Storr for the only goal of the first period.
Skalde pulled the Falcons even midway through the second frame. The veteran carried the puck into the Wolf Pack zone along the left wing boards before snapping a shot between the pads of Valiquette. Forward Evgeni Artukhin collected his second assist of the preseason with a neutral zone pass to set up Skalde.
However, Hartford's Jozef Balef capitalized on a Falcons turnover four minutes later with a blast from the top of the left wing face-off circle to regain the Wolf Pack lead.
Defenseman Fedor Tyutin capped scoring in the game by collecting the rebound of a Dominic Moore shot and lifting the puck past Storr with 10:45 remaining to play.
Storr made 20 saves while playing the full 60 minutes in the Falcons' net. The clubs renewed their spirited rivalry during the evening as the teams combined for 140 penalty minutes in the game. The Falcons failed to score on 10 power plays while Hartford was goalless on eight chances with a man advantage.
The Falcons will look to rebound against the P-Bruins, whose roster includes last season's Boston rookie sensation Patrice Bergeron, on Saturday. Tickets are available for $10 through the Springfield Civic Center box office and the Olympia Ice Center.
