
Crunch Trims Roster By Six

Syracuse, NY (October 8, 2004) â The Syracuse Crunch announced today that right wing Ben Knopp, left wing Shawn Limpright, goaltender Andrew Penner, left wing Janne Jokila and center Tyler Kolarik have been assigned to Dayton (ECHL). The Crunch also announced that they assigned center Brian Gornick to San Diego.
Knopp, 22, appeared in three games for Syracuse during the preseason, tallying one assist. In 63 games with Syracuse last season, Knopp tallied 7 goals, 5 assists and 81 penalty minutes. In 75 career AHL games, all with Syracuse, Knopp has registered 8 goals, 6 assists and 83 penalty minutes. A native of Calgary, Alberta, Knopp was Columbus' second pick, 69th overall, in the 2000 Entry Draft.
Limpright, 23, appeared in two preseason games with Syracuse. In 45 games with Syracuse last season, Limpright recorded 9 goals, 9 assists and 80 penalty minutes. Prior to signing a professional try-out agreement with Syracuse on January 2, 2004, Limpright appeared in 27 games with Roanoke (ECHL), recording 18 goals, 17 assists and 86 penalty minutes. A native of St. Adolphe, Manitoba, Limpright signed an AHL contract with Syracuse on March 11, 2004.
Penner, 21, appeared in two preseason games with the Crunch, with a 1-0-1 record. He participated in the first AHL shootout of the preseason. In 50 games with Dayton last season, Penner had a 15-27-2 record and 3.80 goals against average. A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Penner was signed as a free agent by Columbus on September 17, 2001.
Jokila, 22, appeared in two preseason games with the Crunch. In seven games with Syracuse last season Jokila did not record a point. In 69 games with Dayton (ECHL) last season, Jokila recorded 17 goals, 23 assists and 69 penalty minutes. A native of Turku, Finland, Jokila was selected by Columbus in the seventh round, 200th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.
Kolarik, 23, appeared in three preseason games with Syracuse. He spent the past four seasons with Harvard of the ECAC, scoring 49 goals and 67 assists for 116 points in 130 career ECAC games. The 5'10", 185 pound native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania helped Harvard to NCAA Tournament appearances in each of his last three seasons and ECAC Conference titles in 2002 and 2004. Kolarik, originally selected by Columbus in the fifth round, 150th overall, of the 2000 Entry Draft, was named Harvard's team MVP for the 2003-04 season.
Gornick, 24, appeared in three preseason games with Syracuse recording one goal, one assist. In 24 games with Cincinnati (AHL) last season, Gornick recorded 1 goal, 1 assist and 12 penalty minutes. In 18 games with San Diego (ECHL) last season, Gornick tallied 9 goals, 15 assists and 10 penalty minutes. In 78 career AHL games, all with Cincinnati, Gornick has recorded 3 goals, 5 assists and 26 penalty minutes. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, Gornick was selected by Anaheim in the ninth round, 258th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
The Crunch's regular season home schedule begins on Friday, October 15, when the St. John's Maple Leafs visit the War Memorial at Oncenter for the Express Mart Opening Night. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a hand-clapper noisemaker, compliment of Express Mart.
