Bulldogs lose to Manitoba

FORT FRANCES, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs preseason record fell to one win and three losses, as they were shut out 2-0 by the Manitoba Moose in Fort Frances, Ontario on Friday night. Moose veteran goaltender Wade Flaherty made 31 saves to earn the shutout victory.

Manitoba opened the scoring at the 7:17 mark of the first period on the power play, as rookie forward Jesse Schultz scored his first goal of the preseason. Kevin Bieksa and Jason King earned assists on the play. Schultz's goal would prove to be the game-winner.

After a scoreless second period, King would add an insurance goal for the Moose with just 2:13 remaining in regulation time by firing a shot past the blocker side of Bulldogs' goaltender Yann Danis. Moose forward Tim Smith had the lone assist on the play.

Despite the loss, Danis made 37 saves for the Bulldogs in the contest. Danis' record now falls to 0-2 in the preseason.

There were an incredible 23 power play opportunities in the contest. The Bulldogs were 0 for 7 with the man-advantage. The Moose scored two goals on their 16 power play opportunities.

The Hamilton Bulldogs will conclude their 2004 preseason schedule on Saturday night, when they travel to Dryden, Ontario to face the Manitoba Moose in a re-match.
