Norfolk Tides News Release

Mike Wright turned in a solid start and Mike Yastrzemski homered, but the Lehigh Valley IronPigs plated an unearned run in the ninth inning to edge the Tides 2-1 Wednesday at Harbor Park.

Making his first start with Norfolk since going 3-4 with a 6.12 ERA in 13 games for Baltimore, Wright turned in a strong outing but did not factor in the decision. The 26-year-old yielded one run on five hits over six innings of work, walking two and striking out three while throwing 58 of his 96 pitches for strikes. The East Carolina product surrendered one double and four singles in the contest, one of which was an RBI knock by Emmanuel Burris in the second inning that gave the IronPigs an early 1-0 lead.

Wright rebounded to record four scoreless innings to end his outing, stranding five men on base during that span. He left two men on base in both the fourth and fifth frames before working a perfect sixth inning to cap off his night.

Lehigh Valley starter Ben Lively also turned in an excellent start, as he allowed one run on three hits over seven innings. Lively, who entered play 10-0 with a 2.19 ERA in 14 starts between Double-A Reading and Lehigh Valley, walked one and struck out four. The only blemish on his outing was a solo shot by Yastrzemski leading off the fourth inning - Yastrzemski's 11th home run of the season.

The game was knotted at 1-1 until the ninth, but the IronPigs pushed across an unearned run against Pedro Beato (3-3) to take the lead. With one out and Taylor Featherston on first, Featherston swiped second base and moved to third on an errant throw by Tides catcher Audry Perez. J.P. Crawford then grounded a single into right field, giving Lehigh Valley the one-run lead.

Edward Mujica made that lead stand up, as he retired the Tides in the ninth inning to register his league-leading 17th save of the season.

The IronPigs improved to 16-6 in June with the win, which was their third straight victory over Norfolk.

Norfolk wraps up its homestand Thursday afternoon at Harbor Park, with first pitch set for 12:05. Ariel Miranda (1-7, 4.80) gets the start for the Tides and will be opposed by left-hander James Russell (2-2, 4.25).

Notes: Prior to Wednesday's game, the Orioles recalled left-hander Ashur Tolliver from Norfolk to take the roster spot of Brian Duensing, who was placed on the disabled list with left elbow inflammation...Trey Mancini singled in four at-bats and has now hit .316 in June...Chaz Roe worked a scoreless eighth inning, his 12th consecutive scoreless appearance.
