(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Jason Sehorn, a two-time NFC Defensive Player of the Week, is the first of eight celebrity captains named for the 2016 Harris Teeter and Tide+ Triple-A Baseball Home Run Derby presented by Clariant. The event, which kicks off the three-day All-Star celebration at BB&T Ballpark, takes center stage in Uptown Charlotte on Monday, July 11th. Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. on July 11th and Sehorn, along with seven other celebrity captains, will sign pre-event autographs down on the field.
In all, a total of eight sluggers - including six Triple-A participants (three from the International League and three from the Pacific Coast League) and two High School Home Run Derby winners (Riley Zayicek of Lake Norman High and Trent Alley of Charlotte Country Day) - will compete for the 2016 Triple-A Home Run Derby championship belt. Home Run Derby participants and additional celebrity captains will be announced in the coming weeks leading up to the July 11th event.
Originally drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 1994 draft out of the University of Southern California (USC), Sehorn is a veteran of nine NFL seasons, including eight with the New York Giants (1994-2002) and one with the St. Louis Rams (2003). The former NFL standout will represent Sonic Automotive, the title sponsor of this year's Triple-A Baseball All-Star Game. Sehorn is currently the Director of Communications with Sonic Automotive. A talented two-sport athlete, Sehorn signed with the Chicago Cubs as an undrafted free agent in 1990. He played one season of Minor League Baseball -- appearing in 49 games with the Huntington Cubs of the Appalachian League in 1990 as an outfielder.
