Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The RailRiders rolled to a 9-2 win over the Mud Hens last night. SWB has won nine of its last 11. The Mud Hens have lost 10 of 13.

CLEAN DOZEN: SWB stands a season-best 12 games over .500 halfway through its 144-game regular season. The RailRiders own second place in the IL North, 2.0 games back of the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) who boast the IL's best record (44-28). SWB has a slim 1.0-game lead in the wild-card race over its closest geographic foe, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies).

SOL MAN: Donovan Solano posted a season-high-tying three hits, knocked in a run and scored a tally. A .259 bat after an 0-for-4 effort versus the Charlotte Knights on June 8, Solano has since gone 17-for-41 over 11 games, slashing .415/.455/.512/.967 with seven RBIs and six runs scored. His two-week surge has lifted his average back up to .285, the best it has been since he closed May at .288. He has handled lefties particularly well on the year, slashing .338/.378/.438/.815. Solano owns six multi-hit performances over his last 10 games with an at-bat. His eighth three-hit game of the season was also his fourth multi-hit showing against Toledo. He has gone 10-for-21 (.476) against the Mud Hens.

GUILTY AS CHARGED: Aaron Judge delivered his first multi-HR game as a pro, pulling a two-run liner to left in the first and bashing an opposite-way two-out solo shot in the third. He also connected on a career-high-tying four hits. He saw his batting average bottom out at .221 after an 0-for-3 day versus Columbus on June 2 during an 0-for-24 tailspin. Since then he has reached base in 16 of 17 going 23-for-60 with five homers, 14 RBIs, 14 walks and 22 runs scored. In that time he has slashed .365/.500/.667/1.167. His season-long OBP has risen by nearly 60 points (.285-.343) with 47% of his overall walk total in the 17-game run. All five of those homers have come over his last nine games played. He leads the team in big flies (12) and RBIs (39). He played his last Double-A game of last season on June 21 before departing Trenton with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs with four homers over his last nine games. He had not bashed multiple homers in a single game since May 17, 2013 for Fresno St. versus Nevada in his junior and final collegiate season. Per Fresno St. sports information, his blasts that day were estimated to be a 500-foot two-run jack, and a 460-foot solo home run. Judge was the 2012 college home-run-derby champion. No SWB player has ever hit three home runs in a regulation game. The lone three-dinger effort came on Aug. 16, 1998 at Buffalo when catcher Gary Bennett hit three in the extra-inning game.

VICTORY!: Luis Cessa (2-1) gave up one run over 5.1 innings for his second win in as many starts, both against his former club in Toledo. He had not logged victories in back-to-back nods since winning on June 11 and 17, 2015 for the Double-A Binghamton Mets at Bowie and at Portland.

NOT-SO-GENTLE BEN: Ben Gamel was a .250 hitter after an 0-for-4 showing versus Louisville on May 24. He has since gone 39-for-105 over his last 25 games, slashing .371/.450/.524/.974. He has his average up to .303 (T-7th in IL).

TEIX MESSAGE: Mark Teixeira began his scheduled three-game rehab assignment with the RailRiders with a sac fly on an 0-for-3 night. He left the game after his scheduled six innings. He is slated to play nine innings as the DH tonight, and nine innings as the first baseman tomorrow. Including his MLB time, he has gone 0-for-16 since a double in his final at-bat at Toronto on May 31. The three-time AL All-Star and five-time Gold Glover hit the Yankees' 15-day DL on June 4. He is a career .270 hitter in 14 MLB seasons with 397 home runs.

J.D.: Jonathan Diaz doubled in two runs on a two-hit night, stole a bag and scored a run. He entered the May 12 home game against Pawtucket with a slim .143 batting average. In 30 games played since, he has gone 26-for-88 with 17 walks and 14 runs scored for a .295 average and the IL's fourth-best OBP in that time (.415).

OFF THE RAILS: Paid attendance of 7,366 on Tuesday made for SWB's ninth fixed-seat sellout (7,115)...With a win tonight, the RailRiders would secure their first set of consecutive series victories at home this season...The team had gone 4-3-4 through 11 home series entering this set...The 2015 unit won its last three home series and did not lose a set at PNC Field after dropping two of three versus Syracuse from July 7-9 in the final home series before the All-Star break.
