Rochester Red Wings News Release
COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Clippers hit three home runs, all off Pat Dean, in a 7-2 win over the Rochester Red Wings Wednesday night at Huntington Park.
Dean (1-4) had not pitched in a Triple-A game since May 4 after he was promoted to Minnesota. The Clippers (38-35) took the lefty deep three times for the first time in his Triple-A career.
The Red Wings (44-28) fell for just the second time in the last 11 games. Jorge Polanco gave Rochester a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the first inning off Ross Detwiler (1-4).
Tommy Field, who started at third base for the Wings, had a defensive inning for the ages in the second. Jesus Aguilar ripped a line drive that Field leaped to grab for the first out and two diving stops and throws to first later the inning was over.
The 1-0 score remained the same until the fifth when Columbus scored four runs. Joey Butler gave the Clippers their first lead of the series with a two-run double. Abraham Almonte, appearing in his first "rehab" game after he was suspended 80 games for PED use in February, hit a two-run homer two batters later and the Red Wings trailed 4-1.
Aguilar tied for the league lead with his 14th home run in the sixth, a solo blast, to give Columbus a 5-1 lead. Butler blasted a two-run homer in the seventh to chase Dean, who allowed seven runs on eight hits in 6.0+ innings. He did not walk or strike out a batter.
Detwiler retired the final 13 men he faced and did not allow a hit after the first inning. He surrendered three hits and a walk with three strikeouts while yielding one run.
Field added a sacrifice fly in the eighth but that was as close as the Red Wings would get.
