Buffalo Bisons News Release

In his Triple-A debut, Amir Garrett gave up only one hit but the Buffalo Bisons managed to score three times off of Louisville's starter as part of a seven-run sixth inning, leading to an 8-1 victory at Coca-Cola Field on Wednesday.

Down 1-0, the Herd had already taken three free passes from the 24-year-old before he walked three in consecutive order with two out in the sixth.

That was enough to chase Garrett from the mound, but reliever Chad Rogers ran into even more trouble.

Jesus Montero squared up the first offering he saw from Rogers, lining a two-run single into center field.

"Montero obviously had a big hit," said manager Gary Allenson.

"He's been struggling a little bit lately. He needs to start driving in some runs and chasing some stuff. [It's good] that he got that one at the right time."

Junior Lake then drew another walk to re-load the bases for Andy Burns who came through with a two-run single of his own. Melky Mesa kept the rally going as he beat out a throw from short for an infield hit. That set up Tony Sanchez to drive in two more with a liner to the gap in right-center field, pushing the Bisons' lead to 7-1.

Chris Leroux had his best start of the month for the Bisons. The tall righty was snake bitten by a couple of hard-luck infield singles early on but escaped two different innings with the bases loaded to yield just one unearned run. Leroux struck out six Bats over six innings of work to improve his record to 5-4.

Danny Barnes also made his Triple-A debut when he took the bump for Buffalo to start the seventh. The 26-year-old punched out a pair as he retired all six batters that came his way.

"He looked sharp and threw strikes," summed up Allenson post game.

"It was very exciting. What a difference 24 hours makes," said 26-year-old native of Manhasset, NY.

"It was a lot of fun."

The Blue Jays' 35th round pick in 2010 has posted a 1.01 ERA over 35.2 innings while earning a save as a reliever for the Double-A Fisher Cats.

The Herd added another to complete the scoring in the seventh when Montero drove in his third RBI of the night, bouncing a ball through the left side of the infield to cash in David Adams from third.
