Toivonen, Finland take bronze medal

Providence Bruins goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped 16 shots against the Czech Republic on Monday, leading Finland to a 2-1 victory and the Bronze Medal in the World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland. He was 4-2-0 in six games, with a 1.85 GAA and .920 save percentage. Toivonen is expected to return to Providence later this week.

The 19-year-old Toivonen is in his first North American professional season. He is 8-5-2 in 16 games with Providence, posting a 2.22 GAA and .924 save percentage, with one shutout. Toivonen was the Boston Bruins' first pick, 29th overall, in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

The P-Bruins conclude their three-game road trip when they visit the Springfield Falcons on Saturday, January 10 at 7:35 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550. The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 16 at 7:05 p.m.
