Syracuse, NY (January 5, 2004) – The Syracuse Crunch announced today that center Mark Hartigan has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending January 4, 2004. In four games, Hartigan recorded seven goals and one assist along with a plus-8 rating as the Crunch went 3-0-1-0.

Hartigan, a second-year pro out of St. Cloud State, scored a power play goal in Syracuse's 3-3 tie with Hamilton on New Year's Eve, then recorded an assist on Friday as the Crunch beat the Bulldogs, 3-2. Hartigan recorded the second four-goal game in franchise history and was a plus-6, helping Syracuse past Albany, 7-4, on Saturday. He then scored twice more during a five-goal third period as the Crunch rallied past Cleveland on Sunday, 6-4.

In recognition of his achievement, Hartigan will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Fort St. John (B.C.) Minor Hockey Association in Hartigan's name.

Hartigan has appeared in 32 games with Syracuse this season, with a team-leading 14 goals. He is third on the team with 26 points.

The first player from St. Cloud State University ever named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award (2002), Hartigan split his rookie season between the Chicago Wolves and the Atlanta Thrashers in 2002-03, recording 15 goals and 31 assists in 55 AHL games. He signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Aug. 15, 2003, and has already tallied 14 goals and 12 assists in 32 games with the Crunch.
