Manchester Monarchs News Release
LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Lowell (12/30): Right wing Pavel Rosa scored the lone goal for the Monarchs as the Lowell Lock Monsters scored five on goaltender Mathieu Chouinard. Left wing Brad DeFauw, left wing Tomas Kurka, center David Inman, defenseman Brad Fast and left wing Dan Carlson had goals for the Lock Monsters. Chouinard's appearance was his season high third straight for the Monarchs. He faced 29 shots. Vs. Lowell (12/31): The Monarchs finished 2003 with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Lock Monsters at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Goals from center Steve Kelly, left wing Scott Barney and defenseman Tomas Zizka were not enough as Dan Carlson one-timed his shot by goaltender Adam Hauser with just 52 seconds remaining in overtime to take the win for the Lock Monsters. Hauser finished the night with 32 saves. Vs. Providence (1/2): Goaltender Adam Hauser had 30 saves and right wing Sam Ftorek had the game-winning goal as the Monarchs edged the Bruins, 2-1, in front of their sixth sellout crowd of the year at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Right wing Pavel Rosa put the Monarchs on the board 9:25 into the second period, but Bruins right wing Carl Corazzini tied it up with just over two minutes remaining in the period. The Monarchs answered back 34 seconds later with Ftorek's second goal of the season. Hauser held off the Baby B's for the rest of the game and finished with 30 saves. Vs. Lowell (1/4); The Monarchs were looking for redemption against the Lock Monsters and with right wing Pavel Rosa's first hat trick in a Monarchs uniform, redemption is what they got in their 4-1 victory. Left wing Brad Church was credited with the fourth goal and center Steve Kelly had four assists in the game. The Lock Monsters leading scorer, right wing Pavel Brendl was the only player to get the puck past Monarchs goaltender Adam Hauser, who finished with 25 saves.
TEAM NOTES
Right wing Pavel Rosa needed just 9:07 of clock time to net his first hat trick as a Monarch on Sunday (Jan. 4) against the Lowell Lock Monsters.
Sunday marked Rosa's first four-point game as a Monarch. Rosa had three three-point games for the Monarchs last season.
Rosa, who extended his point streak to eight games on Sunday, needed only four shots to collect his natural hat trick in the opening period.
Rosa has seven goals, five assists and 12 points during his eight-game streak, the second longest for the Monarchs this season. Rosa scored in nine straight games from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6, collecting six goals, seven assists and 13 points during the streak.
Rosa has finished with an even or better plus/minus rating in each game during his current streak. He leads the Monarchs with an overall rating of plus-15.
Rosa's point streak is the longest current streak of its kind in the AHL.
Rosa has not been penalized during the streak.
Rosa leads the AHL with 43 points (17-26=43). His 26 assists are tied with center Steve Kelly for the league lead.
Rosa's hat trick was the first for the Monarchs since left wing Noah Clarke (3-0=3) accomplished the feat on Nov. 23 versus the Springfield Falcons.
Center Steve Kelly matched a league high with his four assists against the Lock Monsters on Sunday. Kelly last scored four assists for the Monarchs on Feb. 17, 2003. The Monarchs beat the St. John's Maple Leafs 6-2 in that game.
Kelly's last assist on Sunday tied him with former Monarchs left wing Eric Healey for first place on the team's all-time points list. Kelly has 40 goals, 91 assists and 131 points in 132 career regular season games with the Monarchs. Healey had 66 goals, 65 assists and 131 points in 140 career regular season games with the Monarchs from 2001-03.
Kelly's goal on Wednesday (Dec. 31) was his 40th as a Monarch. He is one of only four Monarchs players to reach the 40-goal plateau. Healey (66), former left wing Derek Bekar (46) and Rosa (45) are the others.
Rosa became just the third Monarchs player to surpass 100 points with his goal against the Lock Monsters on Tuesday (Dec.30). In 98 career regular season games with the Monarchs over the last two seasons, Rosa has 45 goals, 61 assists and 106 points.
