Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps turned the tables on the Lansing Lugnuts and routed the visitors, 12-4, Thursday at Parkview Field. Tommy Medica and Rymer Liriano each had a pair of extra-base hits.
RHP Matt Jackson was dominant in relief after allowing a home run to the first batter he faced. Jackson settled down to retire the final 12 batters he faced.
Lansing scored the first three runs of the game. In the third, Jake Marisnick lined a two-out, two- run single to center to put the Lugnuts on the board. K.C. Hobson followed with an RBI single to make it 3-0.
Fort Wayne battled back to tie it. In the fourth, Liriano and Wes Cunningham both tripled and were driven in by groundouts to cut the margin to 3-2, then in the fifth Chris Tremblay scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Bisson to tie the game at 3-3.
Lansing retook the lead in the top of the sixth when Marisnick lined a leadoff home run to left, but that lead was short-lived. The TinCaps responded with seven runs in the bottom of the inning, including an RBI double by Medica, two run-scoring wild pitches and another RBI double by Liriano. By inning's end, Fort Wayne led, 10-4.
Medica tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth, drilling a two-out, two-run double to right- center to make it a 12-4 game.
Jackson (2-0) was the winning pitcher, dealing four strong innings with seven strikeouts; Lansing RHP Casey Lawrence (2-3) absorbed the loss.
Fort Wayne upped its record to 11-17; Lansing dipped to 17-10.
The TinCaps and Lugnuts (Class-A Toronto Blue Jays) finish the three-game series Friday at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Keyvius Sampson (4-1) gets the start against Lugnuts RHP Misaul Diaz (0-2).
