May 5, 2011 - Midwest League (MWL1)
South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Dayton, OH - In another exciting ball game with strong pitching throughout, the Dayton Dragons bounced back with a 4-2 victory over the South Bend Silver Hawks on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. The loss by the Silver Hawks evens the series at a game apiece and sets up a rubber match on Friday evening.

J.R. Bradley (LP, 0-5) pitched well for a third game in a row, but still can't catch a break as he takes the loss for his fifth straight start. Bradley allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts in his 5.2 innings on the mound in suffering the defeat.

Billy Hamilton was solely responsible for the first run of the game, leading off the bottom of the first with a double, then stealing third and scoring when the throw from Raywilly Gomez went into left field for the 1-0 Dayton lead.

South Bend answered immediately when Yazy Arbelo led off the second with a solo homer off the batter's eye in center. The blast was Arbelo's eighth of the year, putting him alone in first place in the Midwest League.

Dayton took advantage of another error to break the 1-1 tie in the fourth. Yorman Rodriguez reached on an error to start the inning and later scored with Donald Lutz on a two run double from Juan Duran. Dayton would never relinquish the lead.

South Bend had their best chance to tie the game again in the top of the sixth inning. Ender Inciarte singled and scored from first on Mike Freeman's double against Daniel Corcino (WP, 4-2). Daniel Wolford (ND) came in from the bullpen and pitched around a sacrifice bunt and a walk to strand Freeman at third and end the Silver Hawks threat.

Corcino finished with 5.0 innings (plus two batters in the sixth), allowing three hits and striking out five. He allowed two runs, both earned, and was credited with his fourth victory of the season. Drew Hayes (SV, 2) was part of a trio of relievers who kept the Silver Hawks scoreless after the top of the sixth.

Brian Budrow and Eury De La Rosa each had scoreless stints out of the Silver Hawks bullpen, which has now allowed just two earned runs over their last 32.2 innings pitched.

The two teams wrap up the brief three game series with a 7:00 PM Eastern Time first pitch on Friday evening at Fifth Third Field. The Silver Hawks turn to LHP David Holmberg (0-3, 4.67 ERA) in the starting role, while Dayton is expected to counter with RHP Daniel Tuttle (2-0, 4.57 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
