TinCaps strike early in 10-6 win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps jumped out to an 5-0 lead on their way to a 10-6 win over the Lake County Captains, Wednesday at Parkview Field. Nate Freiman pounded a two-run homer.

Fort Wayne has now won nine of its last ten games.

The TinCaps put together two-out rallies in the early stages of the game. In the first, Jason Hagerty doubled, Freiman walked, then Jedd Gyorko smashed a two-run double to left-center to put Fort Wayne ahead, 2-0.

An inning later, Everett Williams scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeudy Valdez. Later in the inning, Freiman homered to left-center to make it 5-0.

A Chris Kersten solo home run in the fourth inning put the Captains on the board, but Danny Payne responded with a solo shot of his own to make it 6-1.

Lake County got as close as 6-3 as Adam Abraham doubled home a pair of runs with two out in the fifth inning.

Fort Wayne blew it back open in the bottom of the eighth. Jonathan Galvez grounded an RBI single to center, then Everett Williams smacked a two-run triple into the right-field corner to push the lead to 9-3. Two batters later, Valdez lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 10-3.

The Captains scored three runs in the top of the ninth, two coming across on a double by Delvi Cid.

Fort Wayne RHP Stiven Osuna (2-2) collected the win, dealing two scoreless innings in relief of RHP Jerry Sullivan, who worked three shutout frames. Lake County RHP Trey Haley (5-8) took the loss.

Fort Wayne advanced to 28-17 in the half, 64-51 for the season. The Captains dipped to 21-24 in the second half, 63-52 for the year.

The TinCaps continue a three-game series against the Lake County Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) Thursday at Parkview Field at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Matt Lollis (2-0) draws the start against Lake County RHP Clayton Cook (5-7).
