
Kernels Defeat Beloit, 5-1

Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels took the final game of a four game series with the Beloit Snappers by the score of 5-1 in front of 2,139 fans on Tuesday night at Perfect Game Field. Carlos Ramirez went 2-4 with a double, HR and 3 RBI and Randal Grichuk went 3-4 with two doubles, a triple and two runs scored.
Kernels starter Ariel Pena (6-4) allowed a run on five hits, walked four and struck out three over 7 IP for the win. Mike Kenney struck out one over the final two innings in relief of Pena. Beloit starter Edgar Ibarra (6-8) took the loss, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5 IP.
Seven of the Kernels' 10 hits were for extra bases. Jean Segura went 2-4 with a double as Michael Wing was 2-4 and Justin Bass was 1-4 with a double and RBI. Beloit scored their only run on a solo home run by Danny Rams, his 13th of the season.
The Kernels now welcome the Kane County Cougars, the Midwest League affiliate of the Oakland A's, to Perfect Game Field on Wednesday night at 6:35 pm for a three game series. One lucky Kernels fan, age 18 and older, could win $10,000 on Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Winning Wednesday if the Kernels perform a certain feat in the correct inning. Gates open at 5:30 pm.
