Thunder to Hold "All in for Otto" Poker Tournament on March 29
February 16, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
Glens Falls, NY - The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, announced today the "All In For Otto" Poker Tournament, to be held on Tuesday, March 29 at Heritage Hall at the Glens Falls Civic Center. The event will kick off at 7:00 p.m. and all proceeds from the night will go to benefit Otto Miller, a former Queensbury High School hockey player who recently suffered a tragic accident rendering him paralyzed from the waist down.
Highlighting the gathering will be a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament with a prize pool that guarantees at least $500 cash to the tournament winner, plus an assortment of non-cash prizes as donated by local businesses. Attendees of the event will be treated to a meet-and-greet session with Thunder players and have the opportunity to bid on team souvenirs and merchandise. A 50-50 raffle, as well as a cash bar and a cocktail food menu are also part of the evening.
Several Thunder players will match their card skills with some of the region's top poker stars. In addition, a separate match will be convened for poker novices, with its own prize pool as well as pre-game lessons on how-to-play. Suggested donation for the poker tournament is $30 in advance or $40 at the door, with the proceeds being donated to Otto's recovery effort. Fans looking to buy their tickets in advance can visit the Thunder front office to pay by cash or a check made out to TEAM OTTO. Members of the Free4All Poker Tour can play at the suggested donation price of $20 for a limited time only. Those members can sign up at https://saratoga.wufoo.com/forms/adirondack-thunder-tourney-league-discount-entry/.
"When we heard about Otto's accident we immediately thought of ways that the Thunder could help raise funds to aid in his recovery," Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek said. "The poker tournament is one of a few different ways we're trying to do our part and help a local hockey player overcome his challenges."
Miller, a recent Queensbury High School graduate and hockey team member, was just two days away from moving into his freshman dorm on the University of Maryland - Baltimore County campus when he fell from a roof while shoveling snow. His spine was severed in two places, rendering him paralyzed from the waist down. His dream of playing collegiate hockey is now replaced by a new normal of physical healing and (then) limited mobility. Event details are online at https://www.facebook.com/events/2868667266490511. Those not able to attend but wishing to contribute to the cause are encouraged to mail checks, payable to TEAM OTTO, to the Adirondack Thunder, 1 Civic Center Plaza, Glens Falls, NY 12801
Don't miss out on the speed, skill, strength and sounds of Thunder hockey. Discounted group tickets and a Family 4 Pack are available now, along with individual tickets. For more information on all Thunder ticket plans, call 518-480-3355 x1 or visit echlthunder.com.
