Bakersfield Assigns Martin Gernat to Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. - The Bakersfield Condors have assigned defenseman Martin Gernat to their ECHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals.

Gernat, 22, appeared in 22 games for the Condors this season, registering 3 assists and an even plus/minus rating. The 6-foot-4, 205-pound defenseman hails from Kosice, Slovakia and was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 5th round (#122 overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

In his third professional hockey season, Gernat has accumulated 34 points (5 goals, 29 assists) in 136 professional games spanning the AHL and ECHL. A veteran of the WHL, he won the WHL Championship in 2012 with the Edmonton Oil Kings and received the WHL's Most Assists by a Rookie award in that same year.
