Quad City Mallards News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - Kyle Follmer scored the winning shootout goal after also scoring the only Quad City Mallard goal in regulation as the Mallards (23-21-5) edged the host Wichita Thunder (10-31-10) 2-1 in the shootout Tuesday night.

With the win, the Mallards moved into third place in the ECHL's Midwest Division and ninth place in the Western Conference, just one point the behind the Colorado Eagles and the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference.

After the Mallards' Matt Carey and the Thunder's Andy Huff both scored in the opening round of the shootout neither team converted again until Follmer stepped up to break the deadlock in round four. Dean Chelios had the opportunity to equalize with Thunder's fourth chance of the shootout but missed the net.

It was Chelios who had pounced on a rebound to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead at 6:10 of the first period. Follmer tied the score at one by burying Matt Neal's cross-crease pass at 12:47 of the first.

The Mallards next play at home Friday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Friday also brings the return of $1 Dog/$1 Beer Night presented by 97X and MetroLINK College Night.
