Worcester Red Sox News Release
LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Despite three home runs, the Worcester Red Sox (34-25, 73-61) fell to the Gwinnett Stripers (29-29, 62-71) in game three of this six-game series by a 5-4 final on Thursday night at Coolray Field.
Worcester led 4-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, but Chadwick Tromp tied the game with a double down the left-field line, and later in the inning, Yolmer Sanchez hit a walk-off sacrifice fly to give the Stripers their fifth walk-off win of the year.
Bobby Dalbec opened the scoring with a 424-foot home run on the first pitch of the second inning. Dalbec now has 32 home runs, which is second most in the International League. It was Dalbec's first homer since August 27.
The Stripers scored their first run in the bottom of the third. With two down and a runner at second base, Hoy Park lined a two-strike, opposite-field single to score Braden Shewmake and tie the game at one.
In the fifth, Narciso Crook blasted a solo homer to left-center field to put the WooSox on top 2-1.
But Gwinnett responded with a pair in the bottom of the fifth. Yolmer Sanchez hit a two-out, two-run double to left to give the Stripers a 3-2 advantage.
In the top of the eighth, Niko Kavadas crushed a two-run, go-ahead blast over the right-field fence off veteran left-hander Lucas Luetge to put the WooSox in front 4-3. The ball had an exit velocity of 107.8 mph, and it had an estimated distance of 437 feet.
Kyle Barraclough made his 11th start, and he went 4.2 innings and allowed three runs on three hits. Barraclough walked six and struck out 5. He threw 103 pitches, tied for the second-most in a game for a WooSox pitcher this season.
Right-hander Luis Guerrero made his Triple-A debut in the eighth inning. He tossed a 1-2-3 inning on 12 pitches. The right-hander struck out the first two batters he faced. Guerrero topped out at 98.9 mph.
Each of Worcester's last four games have been decided by one run. The WooSox are now 20-22 in one-run games.
