PROVIDENCE, RI - Four different players recorded two points apiece to set the pace for the Providence Bruins as they defeated the Manchester Monarchs by a 5-2 score Friday evening at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

Manchester (27-15-1-2) collected their 15th loss of the season, remaining in first place in the Atlantic Division with 57 points. Providence (19-19-3-1) earned their 19th victory of the season, placing them in a tie for fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 42 points.

"Providence put the boots to us tonight; it was a dismal effort," explained Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris following Friday night's loss. "Our start was great but things unraveled quickly from that point forward. There were too many passengers tonight and I hope we bounce back quickly."

"We'll need to take a good honest look in the mirror because that wasn't even close to the way we need to play to win in this league. We need everyone buying in so we can get back on track," said Morris.

Center Maxime Sauve scored his 10th goal of the season, the game-winning goal, 48 seconds into the third period. Defenseman Colby Cohen skated the puck up ice following a save by goaltender Matt Dalton. Skating up the slot, center Joe Colborne sprinted toward Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones with the puck. Near the right post, Colborne dished the puck to his left where it was fired home by Sauve to extend the Providence lead to 3-1.

Right wing Kirk MacDonald scored his eighth goal of the season at 9:36 of the first period, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead. A Providence defenseman sent the puck deep in the offensive zone from the right point. Behind the net, left wing Lane MacDermid held the puck and waited for traffic in front to settle. MacDermid connected with center Trent Whitfield, positioned in front of the left post. A quick shot on goal was turned aside by Jones, but the follow-up by MacDonald was forced home to put Providence on the board first.

Center Jordan Caron scored his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 13:44 of the first period to extend the Providence lead to 2-0. From the left face-off circle, center Zach Hamill connected with defenseman Matt Bartkowski at the left point. A powerful blast from the blueline was tipped in front by Caron, positioned at the top of the goal crease.

Left wing Dwight King scored his 12th goal of the season at 15:29 of the first period. Following a save by Jones, defenseman Jake Muzzin quickly passed the puck up ice to center Justin Azevedo, streaking up the right side. King entered the zone alongside Azevedo, and skated directly toward the net. Azevedo passed the puck from the right face-off dot across the ice to King, who tipped the puck in at the left post for the Monarchs first goal of the contest.

Left wing Jeremy Reich scored his ninth goal of the season at 11:22 of the third period. Hamill broke into the zone with speed along the right side boards. With a nifty spin move, Hamill was able to move the puck to Caron at the top of the slot. Skating toward the right post, Caron quickly passed the puck to his left across the crease where Reich fired the puck into the wide open goal.

Colborne scored his 10th goal of the season 25 seconds later at 11:57 of the third period. Forcing a turnover in the offensive zone, center Jamie Arniel stole the puck and swiftly skated behind the Monarchs net. Skating around the cage from right to left, Arniel passed the puck to Colborne, standing at the top of the crease. Colborne sniped the top part of the goal behind Jones for Providence's fifth goal of the game. Sauve also collected an assist on the play.

Left wing Bud Holloway scored his team-leading 14th goal of the game at 19:44 of the third period. Immediately following a turnover at the top of the slot, Azevedo fed the puck to Holloway in the right face-off circle. Holloway wristed a shot that snuck inside the right post for the Monarchs second goal of the game.

Jones (16-4-0) drew only his fourth loss of the season, stopping 25-of-30 shots on goal. Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff relieved Jones with 8:03 remaining in the third period, closing out the game by stopping all three shots on goal he faced. Dalton (6-3-0) collected his sixth victory of the season, halting 26-of-28 shots on net.

Manchester went 2-for-6 on the power play. Providence was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

Notables: With the loss, Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones collected only his second losing decision in 11 games...left wing Bud Holloway's third period goal was his team-leading 14th goal of the season...left wing Dwight King now has eight points (4-48) in his last six games...With his first period goal, King now leads the team with three goals scored against the Bruins this season...the Monarchs conclude their season-high nine game road trip with a record of 4-4-0-1.

The Monarchs return home following a nine-game road trip as they host the Binghamton Senators for "Pink In The Rink" on Saturday, January 22 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The event will raise awareness and benefit the fight against Breast Cancer through the Monarchs Care Foundation, Catholic Medical Center Breast Cancer Center and the Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
