Admirals Trampled by Rampage

Milwaukee, WI- The Milwaukee Admirals gave up four consecutive goals in the second and third period as they dropped a 7-5 decision to the San Antonio Rampage Friday night at the Bradley Center. The loss marked the first time this season that Milwaukee has lost to San Antonio in regulation and also the first time they dropped a game when leading after 2 period.

The Admirals held a 3-0 lead in the first period, but were unable to fend off the Rampage offense in the remaining two periods, as they outscored the Ads 7-2 the rest of the way. Linus Klasen (2g, 1) and Blake Geoffrion (1, 2a) both notched three point nights, matching a Milwaukee season high for points in a game.

Milwaukee got on board first at 2:47 of the first period. Klasen passed the puck from behind the net to Ryan Thang who fired a shot that was stopped by San Antonio goaltender Matt Climie, but he didn't control the puck and Geoffrion swiped the puck into the net to give the Admirals a 1-0 lead.

At 17:03 of the first period, Klasen increased the Admirals lead. Geoffrion created a turnover on the forecheck and passed the puck to Klasen in the slot who deked from right to left and got Climie to commit before he brought the puck back around and slid it into the net. Thang also picked up the helper on the tally.

Just 17 seconds later, Kelsey Wilson put the Admirals up 3-0 with an unassisted goal, scoring his first goal since November 28. Wilson intercepted a pass from Jeff May and fired a shot past Climie that hit the crossbar and went in. Al Montoya then replaced Climie in goal for San Antonio.

However, with 39 seconds remaining in the first period, former Admiral Bracken Kearns put San Antonio on the board. Matt Watkins and Alexandre Picard assisted on the marker and helped to give the Rampage some momentum.

San Antonio began the scoring in the second period with a goal from Picard that was assisted by Mathieu Beaudoin and Andrew Ebbett, decreasing their deficit to 3-2.

With Milwaukee on the power play, Klasen scored his second goal of the night giving the Admirals a 4-2 lead. Klasen fired a shot from the far circle that found the back of the net, giving him his first three point game of the season. The goal was assisted by Jonathon Blum and Geoffrion.

San Antonio then turned up the heat scoring four straight goals. At 12:14 of the second period, Michael Stone brought the Rampage within one at 4-3 and then just 1:41 into the third period, Ned Lukacevic scored on the power play to tie the game at four. Beaudoin brought San Antonio into the lead at 5:02 of the third period and Watkins increased their lead to 6-4 just 2:38 later.

Roman Josi brought the Admirals within one at 15:17 of the third period. He fired a wrister from the left point past a screened Montoya to give him his third goal of the season and second in as many games. Mark Santorelli and Dylan Hunter both picked up an assist on the goal.

With the Admirals using an extra attacker, San Antonio finished up the scoring with an empty net goal by Ryan Hollweg. Picard and Beaudoin both had four points on the night marking the first time a member of the opposing team has notched four or more points against the Ads since the 2008-09 campaign.

Dekanich surrendered a season high six goals while making 26 saves, moving his record to 16-7-4.

The Admirals are back in action tomorrow night when they travel to Texas to take on the Stars. Their next home game is Friday, January 28th when they host the Peoria Rivermen at 7:00 pm, followed by a post-game concert by country music star Rodney Atkins.
