Wolves Keep Down Griffins, 4-1

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.---The Chicago Wolves broke a 1-1 tie with three third period goals to pick up a 4-1 win against the Grand Rapids Griffins at the Van Andel Arena Friday night.

Forwards Spencer Machacek (G, A), Riley Holzapfel (G, A), Michael Davies (G, A) and Jared Ross (2A) recorded multiple-points for Chicago, while right wing Darren Haydar potted the game-winning goal.

Grand Rapids (20-20-1-4) broke the stalemate 6:05 into the second period when center Jamie Johnson deflected the puck at the doorstep into the goal past Chicago goaltender Drew MacIntyre, stick side.

MacIntyre (6-4-1) kicked out 35 shots in the win.

Chicago (23-19-2-3) tied the score at one, 8:28 into the middle frame when Machacek took a pass from Holzapfel outside of the crease and slid the puck into the net through the legs of Grand Rapids netminder Joey MacDonald.

MacDonald (10-8-1) recorded 23 saves for the Griffins.

Haydar put back the rebounded into the net on the power-play to give the Wolves the 2-1 lead 3:08 into the last period.

Davies and Holzapfel each notched an empty net goal with under a minute left in the game to close out scoring.

The Wolves and Griffins will play a rematch tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
