Fans Can Celebrate the Life of 'Sharky'

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans fans will have the unique opportunity to share in the life of Craig Charron at "Sharky's Celebration." The event will be held on Wednesday, February 23rd at 7:05 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena and will be a tribute to Charron, who lost his battle with cancer last October.

"The support and generosity to our family from the Rochester community, the Rochester Americans and the Rochester Americans Alumni Association has been amazing and we are truly grateful," said Craig's wife, Wendy. "Craig felt great pride wearing the Rochester Americans' sweater and we are proud to call Rochester home. It would be a great honor to celebrate Craig's life with the Rochester fans at an upcoming Amerks game."

On February 23rd, the Amerks will hold "Sharky's Celebration" during the American Hockey League game between the Amerks and the Manitoba Moose. Tickets are $10 in the best available seating area. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Charron family from the Knighthawks/Amerks Charitable Foundation, Inc. Jerseys and other memorabilia will be raffled off that night by the Rochester Americans Alumni Association in support of Craig Charron's family.

"We are proud to play a small part in the celebration of Sharky's life," said Amerks President Lewis Staats. "Hopefully the fans and friends of Sharky will join Amerks staff and players and more importantly Craig's wife and children for this event."

Craig was a player, coach and family man who lost his battle with cancer on October 19, 2010. His wife, Wendy, resides in Spencerport, NY, with their four children: Jackson, Nicholas, Hunter Anne and Emma. Charron scored 122 goals and added 190 assists in 335 games with the Amerks, leading Rochester to the Calder Cup in 1996 and was inducted into the Rochester Americans Hall of Fame in 2008.
