January 21, 2011 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Hershey Bears News Release
HERSHEY scored early and often Friday night in dispatching the Albany Devils 8-3 at Giant Center, the beginning of a run of four straight home games for the Chocolate and White.
Brian Willsie opened the offensive barrage at 3:21 of the first period, his 14th goal of the year. Willsie tapped in a Kyle Greentree chance, as the puck eluded Albany starting goaltender Mike McKenna. A short time later at 4:22, former BEARS penalty minute leader Louis Robitaille charged into BEARS goaltender Dany Sabourin. Robitaille was assessed five minutes for charging, five minutes for fighting and a game misconduct for charging, giving the home team a power play for five minutes. Steve Pinizzotto would cash in for his 10th goal of the season on the man advantage, and HERSHEY took a 2-0 lead. Patrick Wellar, returning from dental surgery after losing four teeth just seven days ago, scored his second goal of the season at 9:57, a left point shot that increased HERSHEY'S lead to 3-0. Just over five minutes after that, defenseman Brian Fahey charged up the right side and scored in close on McKenna at 15:12. The BEARS led the game 4-1 after one.
The BEARS collected three more goals in the second period, with Francois Bouchard, Willsie and Sean Collins finding the back of the net. Willsie's goal at 12:49 would run McKenna from the game, as he was replaced by Dave Caruso. Albany would pick up two in the third, part of a 17-shot period, but Kyle Greentree rounded out the scoring by putting home his 16th of the season. Sabourin won his 11th game of the season, tops on the club. The game was marred by 173 minutes in penalties, including 90 on HERSHEY. The penalty minutes were nearly 100 more than in any other game the BEARS had been involved with in 2010-11. The previous high for penalty minutes combined in a game was 78, in a game against the Binghamton Senators back on November 14.
BEARS Radio Network Three Stars of the game:
1. Brian Willsie (Two goals)
2. Steve Pinizzotto (Goal and two assists)
3. Patrick Wellar (Goal and three assists)
Notes: The BEARS will stay home on Saturday night to play the second game of the current four-game homestand, welcoming the Rochester Americans to town. The game marks the second and final time in 2010-11 that Rochester will play along HERSHEYPARK Drive, with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m. HERSHEY will host Adirondack Sunday and Springfield Wednesday to close out the string. Tickets for all games are available at the Giant Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
