Devils Begin Road Trip with Loss at Hershey

HERSHEY, Pa. - A - lbany Devils' Alexander Vasyunov had a goal and an assist in an 8-3 setback to the Hershey Bears Friday at the Giant Center. Vasyunov posted his second multi-point effort of the season as the Devils move to 17-22-0-3. A fast start by Hershey helped improve its season mark to 24-14-1-2.

Joining Vasyunov in the goal column was Rob Davison and Chad Wiseman. Vasyunov now has three goals on the year, while Davison has two and Wiseman has four.

Vasyunov stickhandled through the Hershey defense and then roofed a shot over the glove hand of Dany Sabourin at 16:54 while on the power play. Alexander Urbom had the primary assist - his 14th point of the season. Goaltender Mike McKenna had the other, which was his second in the last three games.

Davison's goal came on a blast from the top of the left circle at 2:19 of the third period. David McIntyre earned his 18th point and Patrick Davis notched his 10th with the assists on the play.

The Devils' scoring concluded with Vasyunov carrying the puck into the crease and dishing to Wiseman at the last moment for a one-time goal at 13:25 of the third. Michael Swift assisted on the play for his team-high tying 27th point of the year.

In goal, McKenna got the start and made eight saves before Dave Caruso provided 27:11 of relief. It was Caruso's fifth game of the season. He made nine stops.

The Bears started the scoring early with Brian Willsie registering the game's first goal at 3:21. Steve Pinizzotto followed with a power-play tally at 8:15 and Patrick Wellar made it 3-0 at 9:57.

Brian Fahey added to the lead at 15:12 before Vasyunov got the Devils on the board to finish the scoring in the first period.

The Devils had jump in the second, outshooting the Bears, 6-0, but a shot and rebound attempt by Francois Bouchard moved the score to 5-1 at 10:33.

The second frame concluded with Willsie's second goal at 12:49 and Sean Collins turning the red light on at 15:35.

Kyle Greentree finished the scoring at 15:44 of the third after a pair of Albany goals.

Sabourin earned the win, his 11th of the season, by making 34 saves on 37 shots.

Next up, the Devils continue their Pennsylvania swing with a 7:05 p.m. contest at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Saturday, Jan. 22. The Penguins have already announced a sold-out crowd.
