Altoona Curve News Release

ALTOONA- The Altoona Curve's annual Awful Night, for which the franchise has gained national attention but has never actually been given an award, returns to Blair County Ballpark during Tuesday's 7:05 p.m. game against the Reading Phillies.

The fifth annual installment, titled "Awful Night V - Stick a Spork In It," will include several returning favorites from Awful Nights past as well as plenty of new twists.

As has been the case with the first four editions of Awful Night, the tone will be set as ballpark gates open at 6 p.m. Fans entering Blair County Ballpark will be greeted by an "awful" giveaway. The first 555 fans in attendance will receive awfully-produced sporks. Past giveaways have included Bubble Wrap, Bottomless Cups and the most awful of them all, pictures of Curve General Manager Todd Parnell's removed gall bladder.

Other highlights of "Awful Night V" will include:

--Awful food choices will be available, highlighted by an old favorite of previous Awful Nights, Spam Burgers

--Awful music, mostly featuring Boy and Girl Bands of the 90s, and awful player headshots

--Player statistics displaying fail averages and errors

--An awful version of the "Curve GameDay Show", featuring awful highlights of past Curve games, awful graphics and an awful guest

--On-field promotions and in-game features with an "Awful Night" twist, such as "Cold Spam Eating Contest" (in place of Wing Eating Contest), "Dirty Tidy-Whitey Launch" (in place of T-Shirt Launch), "Guess How Many Fingers Behind My Back" (in place of Guess the Attendance), "Pizza Crust Scream" (in place of Pizza Scream), "Non-Injury Report" (in place of Injury Report), "Curve Stock Down Report" (in place of Curve Stock Up Report) and the "Alone Cam" (in place of "Kiss Cam")

--A post-game Laser Show featuring Curve staff member Jon Laaser (pronounced "laser") wrapped in glow sticks and road flares

Conspicuous by his absence during Awful Night V will be Parnell, one of creators of the promotion, who has another commitment and therefore will not be in attendance.

"Unfortunately I will be unable to attend this edition of Awful Night because of a prior engagement and because of my belief that this awfulness does need to have a spork stuck in it," said Parnell. "But since this promotion will never end my specific instruction to our staff was to simply make sure that, as always, this awful promotion remains outside the white lines," said Parnell.

Ballpark gates open at 6 and plenty of awful seats are still available. Seats can be purchased by visiting the Blair County Ballpark Ticket Office or by calling toll-free at (877) 99-CURVE. Tickets can also be purchased and printed from any home or office computer by logging on to AltoonaCurve.com.
