
Baysox Win Streak Halted at Nine

(Bowie, MD) - The Baysox had their season long nine game win streak snapped Tuesday at the hands of Portland in their series opener with the Sea Dogs. Fredy Deza, who had another quality outing, had a few bumps early, yielding a leadoff walk to Jeff Corsaletti and two-run home run home run to Iggy Suarez in the very next at bat, good for a 2-0 Portland lead in the first inning.
The Baysox would get on the board in the bottom of the second, to cut the lead to one run. Jeff Fiorentino came up big with a one out double through the gap, scoring Nolan Reimold from first who reached on a broken bat bloop single, cutting the Sea Dogs lead to, 2-1.
The Baysox would knot the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth on an Eli Whiteside groundout, scoring Luis Jimenez to tie the game.
Portland would regain the lead though in the top of the seventh with Fredy Deza yielding another home run to former Baysox OF Cory Keylor to put Portland ahead, 3-2.
The Baysox would battle back though in the bottom of the eighth, when Luis Jimenez who continues to swing a hot bat, singled in Bryan Bass to tie the game at, 3-3.
Nick McCurdy entered the game in the ninth inning to spell Sendy Rleal, who pitched a hitless eighth inning and the Sea Dogs were able to capitalize. McCurdy recorded two straight punch outs, but then yielded a triple to Andrew Pinckney. Pickney came around to score the eventual winning run for the Sea Dogs on a John Otness single up the middle to put the Sea Dogs ahead, 4-3.
Hunter Jones punched out the side in the ninth, sitting Brandon Sing, who was pinch hitting down on strikes for the final out of the ballgame.
Jones picked up the win, moving to 2-0 on the season. Nick McCurdy took the loss for the Baysox and dropped to 1-3 on the year. Tuesday marked the return of Nolan Reimold to the lineup. Reimold was in the lineup for the Baysox for the first time since May 10th, following a stint on the Disabled List with a strained oblique. Reimold had been rehabbing his injury and played in nine games on a rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Orioles earlier this month.
On Wednesday catcher Gustavo Molina is expected to join the team after the Orioles claimed him off of waivers from the Chicago White Sox on Monday. The Baysox take on the Sea Dogs in game two of their three game series on Wednesday. First pitch for tomorrow's contest is set for 7:05 pm, with LHP Oscar Alvarez (8-4, 4.79) taking the bump for the Baysox, squaring off against RHP Felix Diaz (2-0, 3.27) for the Sea Dogs.
