Rock Cats Have Two Roster Transactions

July 31, 2007 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats announced two roster moves this afternoon, and each was directly related to a trade made yesterday by their parent club, the Minnesota Twins.

On Monday afternoon, Minnesota - the Rock Cats' AA Eastern League affiliate - dealt 31-year-old INF Luis Castillo to the New York Mets for two players, C Drew Butera and OF Dustin Martin. The Twins subsequently assigned Butera, the son of former New Britain manager, Sal Butera (1995), to the Rock Cats.

To make room for the 23-year-old Butera - a 5th round selection of the Mets in 2005 - the Rock Cats sent another Catcher, Korey Feiner, to Ft. Myers in the Single-A Florida State League.

Butera, a 6'1"/204-pound product of the University of Central Florida, began the 2007 season with St. Lucie in the Florida State League, where he batted .258 in 52 games. On June 22, he was promoted to Double-A Binghamton in the Eastern League where, in 30 games, he hit .188.

Korey Feiner, a 25-year-old resident of Madison, WI, was a valuable member of the 2007 New Britain Catching corps. Sharing receiving duties for much of the season with Kyle Geiger, Feiner appeared in 43 games for the 2007 Rock Cats and batted .222 with 15 RBI. The 5'10"/210-pound Catcher was signed by Minnesota as a non-drafted free agent in 2004 out of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

Both moves are effective immediately.
