ON THE ROAD AGAIN: After a 4-4 homestand, the Sea Dogs begin a 6-game roadtrip in Bowie against the Baysox...Portland has lost three straight after winning their previous four...The Baysox have won nine in a row to pick up three games in the Southern Division...The Sea Dogs have won seven of their last 10 games on the road after suffering their first series loss this month in New Britain...Bowie is 15-15 against teams in the Northern Division.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: On Sunday afternoon, the Connecticut Defenders scored seven runs in the final two innings to beat the Sea Dogs, 20-13. Julio Cordido had a career day, going 4-for-6 with a home run and 7 RBI. Tyler Von Schell smacked two home runs and scored four runs. Connecticut had a multi-hit performance and an RBI from seven of nine starters. Portland had a hit from all nine starters, including four from Jeff Corsaletti. Portland starter Charlie Zink tied a franchise record by allowing 12 runs but established a new franchise mark by surrendering 12 earned runs. Connecticut starter Dave McKae suffered his worse outing of the season, surrendering 11 runs in just two plus innings. The Sea Dogs led 6-3 after two innings, scoring four runs in the first inning with two outs. Bryan Pritz knocked in a first inning run with a single and Andrew Pinckney smacked a three run homer. Both teams scored five runs in the third inning and Connecticut tied the game at 11 in the fourth inning. Corsaletti gave Portland a 13-11 advantage with a two-run double in the sixth inning.
TOUGHT TWO GAMES: The Sea Dogs pitchers have allowed 35 runs (34 earned) in the last two games, covering 16 innings pitched - 19.13 ERA...Portland's team earned run average was 3.88 after game one of Saturday's doubleheader and now sit at 4.16, which still ranks fifth in the Eastern League...Portland hurlers have allowed nine home runs over the last two games - four came by Tyler Von Schell.
HE'S NOW A LEADER: Outfielder Bryan Pritz is hitting .377 this month and now ranks 11th in the Eastern League with a .311 average...Pritz picked up his first multi-homer game of this career during the last homestand...Jeff Natale has 16 multi-walk games this season and is tied for fourth in the Eastern League with a .410 on-base percentage...Jed Lowrie leads the league with 31 doubles but he is playing with the Pawtucket Red Sox.
