AHL Stockton Heat

Stockton Stonewalled by Eric Comrie's 41 Saves in the 2-1 Loss to Manitoba

December 8, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Stockton Heat News Release

Stockton, CA. - Stockton's comeback attempt falls short as Manitoba's Eric Comrie stops 41 shots in the Heat's 2-1 loss. Comrie's hot play combined with Manitoba's fast start limited Stockton's window of opportunity in the first of back-to-back weekend games in Stockton. Logan Stanley sparked Manitoba's early lead, scoring a power play goal 2:46 into the game. Manitoba would add another tally late in the first period off the stick of rookie C.J. Suess. Special teams hurt Stockton all night as the Heat went 0-7 on the power play. The seven opportunities set a new season high for the Heat. Comrie was sensational when Manitoba was down a skater, flashing the leather on a few big stops in the middle stanza. Stockton cut the Manitoba deficit in half at the 5:15 mark of the third period with Kerby Rychel's team-leading 12th goal of the year. 15 seconds later Spencer Foo appeared to have the equalizer, but it was called off due to a Kerby Rychel penalty before the shot. Comrie, and his 41 saves, shut the door on Stockton's late looks and handed the Heat their second straight loss. Stockton is back at it tomorrow night at home against the Manitoba Moose for Military Appreciation Night at 6 PM. All fans in attendance will receive a Stockton Heat camo hat!

INTERVIEWS

"I think we just need to have more of a net presence when you run into a goalie who is kind of swallowing everything up. You got to find a way to get in front of his eyes, make him uncomfortable. We're going to watch some video and get back at it tomorrow." - Buddy Robinson on facing Manitoba's goaltender Eric Comrie

"We're in every game and you never can count us out. We know we're going be there at the end, but the thing I think we need to work on is having the lead at the end of those games instead of being the ones coming from behind." - Robinson on tonight's comeback effort

"New game. New day. We just got to go out there and act like yesterday didn't even happen. Come in, watch some video, talk about some things we got to clean up a little bit, but then just go right back to work. We know how they're playing, we just need to kind of step in front of them and slow their wingers down from getting on our [defense] as fast." - Robinson on approaching tomorrow's game against Manitoba
