The Week That Was:

After a tough loss to Pensacola on Jan. 2nd, the Stingrays rebounded nicely with wins against Pensacola, Augusta, and Johnstown to finish the week at 3-1.

The Rays were in Pensacola on Jan. 2nd and were down 3-0 early in the first and could not come back. Mike Wirll scored a hat trick and former Stingray John Hecimovic added a goal in the Ice Pilots victory.

When Pensacola came to South Carolina on Thursday, the game had an opposite result. Behind goals from six different Stingrays, the team defeated the Ice Pilots 6-4.

The Augusta Lynx met the same demise as the Ice Pilots. Both Mat Reid and Peter Szabo had two goals and Davis Parley stopped 25 shots in the 7-2 victory over the Lynx.

In the Stingrays first non-division game, the Johnstown Chiefs came to town. After building a quick 3-0 lead in the first, the Stingrays continued to score four more goals, including a Brendan Bernakevitch power play goal with one second left en route to their 7-2 win.

Team News:

After going 3-1 this week, the Stingrays now have 40 points and are fourth in the division. They are only four points behind division-leading Texas Wildcatters and Florida Everblades, each with 44 points.

The Rays are 7-3 in their last ten games and currently have a three-game winning streak as they head into next weekend at Florida.

The Stingrays have been up by no less than three goals before their opponent scores in their last three games.

The team is averaging 6.42 goals in their last seven wins at home and have won the last five games in a row at the North Charleston Coliseum.

The Stingrays are eighth in league on power play conversion with a 17.5% and are twelfth on the penalty kill with an 83.9% success rate.

Captain Cail MacLean is among leaders in points for the league with his 36 points on 13 goals and 23 assists.

Cam McCaffrey's three short-handed assists ties him for first in the league with David Brine of Florida and Brad Schell of Gwinnett and with five short-handed points total, he is in a five-way tie for 1st in that category.

Davis Parley is 1st among goalies in wins (17), 2nd in minutes (1722), 2nd in saves (843) and first in overtime victories with three.

Donny Grover is 18th among defenseman in points with 20 on six goals and 14 assists.

Nate Kiser's 100 penalty minutes places him fifth in the league.

Matt Reid's four assists on Sunday's game places him in a tie for most assists in a single game.

Evan Schwabe has a five game assist streak going with six assists.

Peter Szabo has a three game goal streak with four goals and a five game point streak (4g, 6a)

The Stingrays hit the road this weekend as they travel to Estero, FL to face the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena.

The Stingrays play their first of two games at Germain Arena on Friday, Jan. 12th. This is the fourth meeting between the teams and the Stingrays are 1-2. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN Radio 910 the Team beginning at 7:15 p.m. with the Benito's Pre-game Show.

January 13, 2007

The second night of the double-header concludes with Saturday's game. Peter Szabo, who has been on a streak lately, leads the team against the Everblades with two points. Reggie Berg leads Florida with four points. Tonight's game is broadcast on the Real 1340am beginning at 7:15 p.m.
