
Checkers finish week at 1-1-1

Charlotte Checkers News Release
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Charlotte Checkers went 1-1-1 last week as they shutout the Columbia Inferno 8-0 Tuesday night. The team then traveled to Florida to take on the Everblades, and the Checkers were defeated 9-7 Friday night and 4-3 in overtime Saturday night. The Checkers shutout was the first of the season. Both Bruce Graham and Dan Murphy had two goals at home Tuesday night, and, forward, Zdenek Bahensky, had one goal and three assists. Friday night, center, Blake Bellefeuille led the team with four goals and one assist for the evening. The Checkers continue their three game road trip Tuesday night against the Everblades. The team returns home to face Columbia and Pensacola, and they end the week at Columbia on Saturday night.

Tuesday, January 2, 2007 vs. Columbia, W, 8-0 The Charlotte Checkers shutout the Columbia Inferno 8-0 Tuesday night at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena. Both Dan Murphy and Bruce Graham had two goals for the evening, and Zdenek Bahensky had one goal and three assists. Alex Westlund was credited with the Checkers first shutout and their largest margin of victory this season.
Friday, January 5, 2007 @ Florida, L, 9-7 In a wild game at Germain Arena in Fort Myers, Florida Friday night, the Charlotte Checkers scored seven goals but lost. After erasing a 7-3 Everblades lead late in the third period, Florida scored two goals in the final 4 minutes, 51 seconds to earn a 9-7 victory over Charlotte.
Saturday, January 6, 2007 @ Florida, L, 4-3 The Charlotte Checkers lost another heart breaking game to the Florida Everblades Saturday night in Fort Myers, Florida. After losing 9-7 the night before against Florida, the Checkers (17-14-2 for 36 points) totally turned their game around Saturday night and had a two-goal lead late in the third period.
