Player Notes: Goaltender Andy Franck stopped all 40 shots and posted his second shutout of the season in Wheeling's 5-0 win over Reading on Sunday night. Franck's other shutout this year came against the Toledo Storm on Dec. 8when he saved all 23 shots. Joe Jensen returned to the Nailers from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL) and registered five points (4g, 1a) in three games.

Team Notes: Wheeling won their first overtime game of the season on Friday night in a shootout. The Nailers are now 1-1-1 in games that take more than 60 minutes to decide. Wheeling scored five goals in their wins on Friday and Sunday. The Nailers have won eight out of nine games when they score five goals or more in a game. The one loss came in a shootout to Gwinnett (7-6 on Dec. 3).

Friday, January 5 Wheeling 5 vs. Dayton 4 SO

The Nailers overcame a two-goal deficit and squandered a two-goal lead of their own before defeating the Dayton Bombers in a shootout Friday at WesBanco Arena. Joe Guenther scored the only goal in the shootout while regulation ended in a 4-4 draw. Joe Jensen, seeing his first action in Wheeling since December 5, scored two goals and added an assist while leading the Nailers to the come-from-behind victory. After falling behind 2-0 just 1:30 into the second period, Wheeling responded with four consecutive goals in an 8:12 span to take a 4-2 lead. Dayton would add a tally late in the second and early in the third to force overtime. Andy

Franck stopped three shots in OT to force a shootout where he stopped all five Bombers. Franck stopped 42 of 46, not including the shootout where the Nailers won their first overtime game of the season.

Saturday, January 6 Wheeling 1 @ Dayton 3

Wheeling was limited to a season-low 17 shots on net as they fell 3-1 to the Dayton Bombers on Saturday night. It marked their first trip to Dayton this season after winning all six meetings at the Nutter Center last year. Eric Sonnenberg tied the game at one just 2:01 before the first period came to a close. Vin Hellemeyer and Rich Colwill assisted on Sonnenberg's second tally of the year. Dayton's single goals in each period was enough to sink the Nailers as Franck stopped 27 of 30 in a losing cause. Wheeling went 0 for 5 on the power play for the second night in a row.

Sunday, January 7 Wheeling 5 vs. Reading 0

Andy Franck was flawless in Sunday night's 5-0 win over the visiting Reading Royals. He stopped all 40 shots including some acrobatic saves to earn his second shutout of the season. Joe Jensen provided the offense with his second multi-goal performance in three games and Rich Colwill notched a goal and two assists in the win. Wheeling scored three goals in the first period including two in the final minute and never looked back. Jensen scored on the power play in the middle period to increase the Wheeling lead to four. The Nailers chased Jeff Petrasiak from the net after two periods and beat Ryan Munce once in the third as Ned Havern was credited with his seventh. Four different Nailers registered more then one point as the Nailers beat the Royals for the fifth time in seven meetings this season.
