Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Face Nailers in Opening Round of 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs

The South Carolina Stingrays closed out the 2010-11 regular season with a three-game series against the Florida Everblades at Germain Arena for a week record of 2-1-0-0. The series kicked off on Wednesday night with the Everblades taking a 4-1 victory. Forward Trent Campbell netted the lone goal for the Stingrays. The Stingrays bounced back Friday with a 5-4 win. Forward Rob Ricci had a goal and an assist and defenseman Joe Finley added two assists. On Saturday, the Everblades scored the opening marker, but the Stingrays battled back to tie the contest early in the third period on a goal from forward Matt Scherer and prevailed in the shootout 2-1. With the win, the Stingrays face the Wheeling Nailers in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinals playoff series.

Taking the Lead:

The Stingrays finish the 2010-11 regular season second in the South Division with 80 points and fifth overall in the Eastern Conference.

Forward Rob Ricci is second in the league with five shootout goals and tied for third with five shorthanded points (3g, 2a).

Defenseman Josh Godfrey is tied for first among ECHL defensemen with 15 goals and second with 167 shots and nine power-play goals.

Defenseman Nate Kiser is tied for fourth among league D-men with 38 minor penalties.
