Jackals Head to Playoffs Following 4-1 Loss to K-Wings

Kalamazoo, Mich. - The Elmira Jackals (32-30-7-3) dropped their regular-season finale on Saturday night to the Kalamazoo Wings (40-24-2-6) at Wings Stadium, 4-1. The Jackals host the Greenville Road Warriors in games one and two of the first round of the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs on Tuesday and Wednesday at First Arena.

Kory Karlander wristed a puck past the glove of Jackals goaltender Jared DeMichiel from the slot at 4:51 of the first period to put the K-Wings up 1-0.

At 8:16 of the first period on a Kalamazoo power play, Sam Ftorek wristed a puck in past the stick side of DeMichiel from the left circle to put the K-Wings up 2-0.

Yannick Tifu snuck a puck in from the left goal line past the skate of Kalamazoo goaltender Ryan Nie to bring the Jackals to within a goal, 2-1, at 10:51 of the middle frame.

Steven Tarasuk snapped a shot into the net from in front at 17:36 of the second on the power play to extend Kalamazoo's lead to 3-1.

Brandon Svendsen finished off the scoring at 19:46 of the second, driving a puck in from the left circle to give Kalamazoo a 4-1 advantage.

The Jackals are at home against the Road Warriors on Tuesday and Wednesday for games one and two of the best-of-five first round series. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
