Stingrays' Power Play Continues to Improve Despite Loss to Everblades

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays (3-6-0-3) kicked off a three-game in three-day weekend and five-game homestand at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday night, falling to the Florida Everblades (7-2-0-1) 4-1. Forward Wayne Simpson scored the lone goal for the Stingrays.

Everblades forward Gabriel Desjardins broke open the scoring at 16:40 of the first period lifting a backhanded shot past the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Adam Morrison (L, 21 saves on 25 shots).

Simpson tied the contest on the power play 8:53 into the second period ripping a shot past the blocker the of Everblades netminder Allen York (W, 16 saves on 17 shots) off the left-wing circle. Forward Derek DeBlois and defenseman Garrett Haar added assists. With the tally, the Stingrays have picked up man-advantage markers in their last six contests. The Everblades reclaimed the lead at 14:35 when forward Corey Trivino knocked a rebound past Morrison.

The Everblades tacked on two more tallies on the third period to take the 4-1 decision. Forward Adam Brace generated the two-goal lead at 3:10 of a blast from the right-wing point and forward Chris Kushneriuk registered his second goal of the season at 10:48 guiding in a rebound inside Morrison's left post. The Stingrays wrapped up the game 1-for-6 on the power play while the Everblades went 0-for-3.
