November 14, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

GREENVILLE, SC - For the second consecutive evening, the Gladiators (5-5-0-0) could not hold to an early third period lead as they fell to the division-leading Greenville Road Warriors (8-4-0-0), 4-2 on Friday night. Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored two power play goals while Greg Carey added in two assists and Garry Nunn extended his point streak to four games.

Unlike on Thursday, the Gladiators shot out to the early lead. Casey Pierro-Zabotel gave the Gladiators the 1-0 lead in the first period with his fifth goal of the season on the power play at 5:25, assisted by Garry Nunn and Greg Carey. Pierro-Zabotel was able to jam the puck out of a scrum in front of the net to give the Gladiators their first first-goal lead in two weeks.

The same strategy worked in the second period as Pierro-Zabotel doubled up the Gladiators lead at 9:54, back on the power play, this time deflecting Brenden Walker's shot from the right faceoff circle behind Jeff Malcolm using his skate. Before the end of the period, Greenville got one back on Chad Nehring's fifth goal of the year at 18:47 of the period, just a minute before the intermission.

In the third, Greenville stormed ahead with two quick goals, just 28 seconds apart. First, Ryan Hegarty tied the score at two on the Road Warriors' sixth power play opportunity of the game at 6:20. Then at 6:48, Sy Nutkevich gave the Road Warriors the lead on his first of the season on a quick three-on-two break. Vinny Saponari gave Greenville the insurance goal at 18:36 on their seventh power play chance, from Sean Escobedo and Chad Nehring.

Greenville outshot Gwinnett 35-to-26, and finished with five more power plays, going 2-for-8, while the Gladiators went 2-for-3. Mark Guggenberger made 31 saves on 35 shots, while Jeff Malcolm was 24-for-26.

The Gladiators' next game will be this Sunday the 16th at The Arena at Gwinnett Center at 2:05 p.m. for the culmination of the month of "Movember" with the third annual "Stache Bash" against the Florida Everblades.
